In 1930, the Boy Scouts of America created an opportunity called Cub Scouting for boys younger than Boy Scout age. A year-round, home-centered program used by chartered organizations, Cub Scouting emphasizes involvement between boys and their parents, adult leaders, and friends. In the multidimensional plan of the Boy Scouts of America, Cub Scouting is where it all begins.

Cub Scout Pack 58 has been a part of the Davidson Community for 60 years. We are chartered by the Davidson Lion's Club and enjoy strong support from the local church community including Davidson United Methodist Church and Davidson College Presbyterian Church.

Cub Scouting has the following purposes:
- Influences character development and spiritual growth.
- Develops habits and attitudes of good citizenship.
- Encourages sportsmanship and pride.
- Grows strong in mind and body.
- Improves understanding within the family.
- Strengthens a boy's ability to get along with others.
- Fosters personal achievement.
- Develops new interests and skills.
- Shows a boy how to be helpful and do his best.
- Prepares him to be a Boy Scout.
